2017 Husker Afternoon at Del Mar Race Track

2017 Husker Afternoon at Del Mar Race Track

Del Mar 5Once again you are invited to relive the many spring days spent at Omaha’s now defunct AkSarBen race track as a respite from classes by joining your fellow San Diego Huskers for an afternoon at the Del Mar Racetrack. This year’s Husker afternoon at Del Mar will be held on Sunday, July 30th. Post time is 2:00 pm.  The chapter has reserved several tables in the Clubhouse Terrace Restaurant viewing area and is making seating available to Huskers at our cost of $17.00 per ticket. That price includes admission, seating at the terrace restaurant and the daily racing program.  It’s a fun venue with an opportunity to socialize and perhaps, depending on your handicapping skills, win enough to pay for the afternoon. . The Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act of 2015 permits individuals age 70½ and older to arrange direct transfers from their IRA to qualified charitable organizations, such as the San Diego Alumni Chapter Nebraska Legends Program Fund (01124500) administered by the University of Nebraska Foundation, up to a maximum amount of $100,000 per person ($200,000 per couple) per year. This allowance applies to gifts made after December 31, 2014. As you consider your gift, please review the following:

  • It is essential that the IRA administrator make the transfer directly to the University of Nebraska Foundation. To ensure proper crediting of your donation to the chapter’s scholarship fund please include your name and “IRA distribution for fund 01124500” in the remitter line of the check.
  • Distributions can be made ONLY from a traditional or Roth IRA. Other retirement plans, such as pensions or 401(k) plans, are not eligible but can be converted in order to take advantage of the IRA rollover allowance.
  • There is no charitable deduction, but the amount sent to the University of Nebraska Foundation will be excluded from your adjusted gross income. This is particularly beneficial for individuals who do not itemize deductions in their tax return.
  • This gift could count toward your annual required minimum distribution (RMD).
