Summer Social 2018

Please join the San Diego Huskers on Sunday August 26th from noon to 3 pm at Hilltop Community Park, located at 9711 Oviedo Way in the Rancho Peñasquitos area of San Diego, for our annual summer social. Hilltop Community Park has two great playgrounds for kids, lots of open grass area, and a spectacular view. It is on a high mesa and in the afternoon enjoys a refreshing on shore breeze. It is canine friendly but dogs must remain on a leash at all times. Bring the entire family out, dressed in red, and enjoy a wonderful afternoon. The Chapter will provide hot dogs and burgers, non-alcoholic beverages and cookies. Attendees are encouraged to bring side dishes and /or deserts for sharing with fellow Huskers. Traditional Nebraska fare is particularly appreciated. Door prizes will be awarded.

Who / What to bring: Huskers of all ages. If you know a Husker who hasn’t participated before, bring them along as well. Also bring lawn chairs / softball / volleyball / basketball equipment and/or games such as badminton, croquet, non-metal horseshoes (ring toss), etc.

Why: To have fun and enjoy a great opportunity to socialize with other people who have ties to the University of Nebraska.

The Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act of 2015 permits individuals age 70½ and older to arrange direct transfers from their IRA to qualified charitable organizations, such as the San Diego Alumni Chapter Nebraska Legends Program Fund (01124500) administered by the University of Nebraska Foundation, up to a maximum amount of $100,000 per person ($200,000 per couple) per year. This allowance applies to gifts made after December 31, 2014. As you consider your gift, please review the following:

  • It is essential that the IRA administrator make the transfer directly to the University of Nebraska Foundation. To ensure proper crediting of your donation to the chapter’s scholarship fund please include your name and “IRA distribution for fund 01124500” in the remitter line of the check.
  • Distributions can be made ONLY from a traditional or Roth IRA. Other retirement plans, such as pensions or 401(k) plans, are not eligible but can be converted in order to take advantage of the IRA rollover allowance.
  • There is no charitable deduction, but the amount sent to the University of Nebraska Foundation will be excluded from your adjusted gross income. This is particularly beneficial for individuals who do not itemize deductions in their tax return.
  • This gift could count toward your annual required minimum distribution (RMD).
